Anibums Newborn Cloth Diaper #NewFluff Review

I always wish that I had learned to sew.  I can sew a button back on but that is about it.  I think once, when I was in elementary school my grandmother taught me how to use a sewing machine and make a pillowcase, but I have since forgotten.  Lucky or people like me, there are people like Emily of Anibows/Anibums.   Emily learned to sew by age 5 from her very talented mother and later in life when she made the decision to use cloth diapers it was only natural that she used the skills she already had to make them. Emily and her husband Keith have 3 kids {2 daughters and a son}.  They have a great Etsy shop where they sell cloth diapers, covers, clothing and accessories.

With big sister we didn’t really have many newborn cloth diapers but now that I know so much more, I really wanted to try them with baby brother.  By using a newborn cloth diaper you eliminate a lot of the bulk that you would have with a one-sized diaper on a tiny baby.

The Anibums size 1 pocket diaper has many of the same features as a one-sized diaper but on a much smaller scale.  The snaps allow the diaper to size down to a newborn but up to approx 12-14 lbs.  Depending on the size of your baby, this will get him through the first several months until they are big enough for a true one sized diaper.  Baby boy was 7 lbs 15 oz when he was born and at his one month check up today he weighed 9 lbs 9.8 oz.

The Anibums size 1 diapers come with a hook and loop type closure.  I am a huge fan of hook and loop on newborn diapers for a couple reasons.  It is just easier for other people who are helping out and may not be used to cloth diapers but it is also easier for me to get a good tight fit and you don’t have to worry about your baby being in between snaps.

When I got my first Anibums cloth diaper I was able to secure it as tight as the diaper would go, but there were still slight gaps in the tummy and legs.  Baby brother is not as small as big sister was when she was born (she still is a peanut and only around the 10th percentile on a good day) but he is still a skinny baby.  No adorable fat rolls and thunder thighs for my babies.  I brought this to the attention of Anibows and they took my input to heart.  *This is why I LOVE working with small businesses and will always recommend you do the same when possible*  Emily and Keith made me a second diaper with an extended hook and loop so that I could make sure and get a nice snug fit.  Not only did they make that change on a diaper for me but they have made this modification to all size one diapers from this point forward.  Skinny legged babies should not have to worry about the diapers leaking any more!!

With the modified hook and loop closure, this diaper fits baby brother like a glove!  We have it pulled tight at the waist and on the smallest rise, so it will fit him for months to come.

This diaper includes two soft and tiny bamboo inserts but Anibums also makes microfiber inserts.  When we had some leakage problems with baby brother Emily and Kieth explained to me that he could be a “fast wetter.”  They sent me two microfiber inserts as well {since they say that microfiber is faster absorbing} and instructed me to put one microfiber and one bamboo with each diaper.  Microfiber can be prone to compression leaks so they told me to put the microfiber in the pocket on the top and that having the bamboo behind catches anything from the microfiber when it is compressed.  Again, this is why Anibums {beyond just making great cloth diapers} is an amazing company!  They really want their customers to be successful in cloth diapering and will do everything in their power to make sure that you get the tools and information you need.

We love our Anibums cloth diapers and know that you will too!  You can purchase the size one diaper for just $14.95 in lots of adorable prints and colors at the Anibows Etsy shop.  They also make larger diapers and you can see just how great they are too by checking out Bri’s review of their size three pocket diaper over at Eco Baby Mama Drama.

The teal flowers are gorgeous! These are so sweet! My last baby is 10 months old so I hope they’re still in business in 5-6 years from now when the grandchildren start arriving (fingers crossed, I have an 18 yr. old boy who very much wants to start a family as soon as he finishes college).
