Happy New Year everyone! 2013 has officially begun and as I look back on 2012 I have decided to make a few resolutions. I normally don’t make them because I *rarely* stick with them. We will see how I do this year….
* Spend more quality time with family. This New Year’s Day we will be traveling to my husband’s grandmother’s funeral. She lived a long, wonderful life ~ but I am always remembered at times like these that when it comes down to it, we will always feel like we didn’t get “enough time” with our loved ones once they are gone. So how am I going to accomplish this? I am going to start out with the little things
~ sit down together for dinner every night and leave the cell phone in another room
~ when my daughter asks me to sit down and have a play picnic with her, I am going to stop what I am doing and do it ~ what is 5 minutes out of whatever I am doing?
~ make a point to talk to family that I don’t see on a regular basis at least once a week. It doesn’t have to be an hour phone call, even 10 minutes to say hello
* Meal plan and stick with it. With Baby Boy due to arrive in about 6 weeks our lives are going to get a lot busier. There have been times in the recent past where I have gone to the grocery store (sometimes literally for one item) every day of the week. Not only does this take time out of my day and add stress to my life, but it drastically increases our grocery bill. By planning out our meals each week (I usually do it on the weekend) and actually sticking with the plan, I will have more time to stick with my first resolution!
* Read more. I love to read and used to do it more often. I find myself saying that I don’t read as much now because I have a child, but I don’t think that is really the case. If I am honest with myself, it is because I spend too much time sitting in front of my computer. I leave much of my blogging until after my daughter goes to bed but when I look at the tabs open on my computer right now, there is also facebook and pinterest. I love these two site ~ facebook to stay connected with friends, families, and companies ~ and pinterest to find great new ideas. However, both can also be a black hole that sucks me in and doesn’t let me out for hours. Nothing will change if I miss a few status updates (before facebook I never knew what my old co-workers were having for dinner) and I don’t really *need* to look at a million cookie recipes… no matter how delicious. So I am going to try to power off sooner and curl up with a good book (or good read on my kindle) most nights of the week. From what I read (yes… online….) this may even help with my sleep!
Did you make any resolutions this year? What are they?

I love your New Years Resolutions for 2013! I agree with many of your choices. I refuse to answer my phone during a meal and in a restaurant. I feel that my family needs that quality time. I will not answer in a restaurant even if we haven’t started to eat.
I feel the same about taking the five minutes or so to please our children and to enjoy them. I am definitely working on letting other things and chores wait that 5 or 10 minutes that my children want. I sat down on the living room floor this evening to play matching with my six year old son even though I was in the middle of something else.
These are the minutes to enjoy and to build memories. So what if the dishes had to wait. In fact, Mr.K and I played two games of matching. We also made a plan to purchase a new game, Uno, that he is interested in playing! Thank-you for the post and inspiration! I’d love for you to visit to read my resolution and goals at http://www.mommiesandbeyond.com
Thank-you!

I did, mine are to be a better mom and partner. I”m a first time mom so I’ve been pretty stressed out financially and emotionally so I want to be more at peace and not transmit my anxiety to my baby boy and not take it out on my partner (his father). I also want to lose the baby weight
Happy New Year!
