If you are like me, you have a heck of a time getting tomato paste out of the can. Those cans are so small and awkwardly shaped that a spoon and even a spatula don’t quite work to get all of the paste out.
This tip is so simple, yet so helpful in the kitchen!
Once you use your can opener to open one end of the tomato paste can, leave the top on and flip it over. Then open the bottom of the can. Now, push the bottom of the can which will get all of the paste out. Remember to take the top metal piece off before pushing your paste into a dish!
What do you do with your extra tomato paste? I don’t know about you, but many of my recipes call for a Tablespoon or two of tomato paste but not the whole can. I hate food waste so I have created a convenient way to save that leftover tomato paste.
Measure out 1 Tablespoon portions of tomato paste on a sheet of plastic wrap (I like to use press and seal). Place a second sheet of plastic wrap on top and seal the paste in “pouches.” Cut into individual pieces and freeze. Now, next time you need a Tablespoon or two of tomato paste you will have it ready!
