It’s that time of year again ~ ghosts, goblins, and princesses will be roaming the streets!! We love Halloween at our house! The last two years I was able to pick Monkey Girl’s costumes without worrying about what she wanted.
Well, this year she definitely has an opinion! We try not to encourage (and actually discourage) the princess mindset in our household. I am not big on super girly stuff and I hate the image of women portrayed in old fairy tales (need men to rescue them, getting the man is most important, beauty is on the surface, etc). You can imagine my surprise when, of the hundreds of costumes from Anytime Costumes, my daughter picked out a fairy costume. It is kind of like a Tinkerbell costume complete with wings, a head piece, and a wand.
And this is why I think my daughter is the most awesome kid in the entire world and I feel like I am doing things right ~ when she puts on the fairy dress and picks up the wand she looks at me, spins around and says “I have spelling powers!” Yep, no need for prince charming here. She will solve her problems with her spelling powers (thanks Super Why!).
The dress fits great and works well over pants and shirts (perfect for the volatile Colorado fall weather). The wings do not adjust and are very tight (she says they hurt and refuses to put them on). My husband is engineering a way to make them fit more comfortable. The wand is great and has held up with her taking it everywhere. The head piece is super cute too but is made to fit an adult head so it doesn’t stay on her real well. Overall, we love the costume, and with the great prices from Anytime Costume, it was a steal!
What is your little one going to dress up as this year?

That fairy outfit is soooo cute!!
That’s adorable
