Every day, 36 children in the United States are diagnosed with cancer—and more than 40,000 undergo cancer treatment every year. For dogs, the numbers are even more heart wrenching: 1 in 3 will be afflicted with cancer in their life and, of those, half will die from it.
Inspired by the story of child cancer survivor Chase Caspersen and his cousin’s dog, Bentley, ORGANIX® and PetSmart® have teamed up to do something about it. Heel Cancer! is an initiative to raise awareness and funding for children’s and canine cancer research. Bentley is out on tour so check to see if he is coming to a city near you!
You can help! Every time you buy an ORGANIX® product at PetSmart® (including food, treats, and cans), Castor & Pollux will donate $0.10 from the proceeds to CureSearch for Children’s Cancer and the National Canine Cancer Foundation.
CureSearch for Children’s Cancer is a national non-profit foundation whose mission is to fund and support children’s cancer research and provide information and resources to all those affected by children’s cancer. CureSearch supports clinical trials research at more than 175 local hospitals across the United States. These hospitals participate in National Cancer Institute sponsored clinical trials conducted by the Children’s Oncology Group. Through the CureSearch Investigational Research Initiative, CureSearch also funds basic and translational research that offers the greatest potential to design treatments and improve outcomes for children with difficult-to-treat cancers.
The National Canine Cancer Foundation is a nationwide, contribution funded, 501 (c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health issue in dogs by funding grants directly to cancer researchers who are working to save lives, find cures, better treatments and accurate, cost effective diagnostic methods in dealing with canine cancer.
To get you started with purchasing Organix, 5 lucky Coping with Frugality readers will receive coupons for a free bag of food. While it isn’t required, please use it at PetSmart so that you can benefit this amazing project!
