Cost Saving and Fun to Drive | Kia Rio 5 Door

I recently had the chance to drive a Kia Rio 5 Door.  The Kia Rio is smaller than any car I ever owned so I was very excited to drive it.  I this economy many people are looking for economical vehicle choices, and that is just what the Kia Rio is ~ it starts at $13,800 and gets great gas mileage 40 highway/ 30 city!  In addition to standard low-rolling-resistance tires and electrically assisted power steering, Kia also includes a selectable Active Eco mode on automatic-transmission models to squeeze more miles from each gallon of gas.

When Active Eco is activated, the transmission upshifts sooner and downshifts later to keep engine rpm lower. It also tries to smooth gas pedal response. Although the system doesn’t lead to an official increase in the Rio 5-Door’s EPA gas mileage, Kia says Active Eco can improve fuel economy by up to 7 percent.

There’s a downside to the Active Eco mode, and it’s a big one: Gas pedal responsiveness is severely diminished. It makes the car feel sluggish and takes away from the refined four-cylinder engine that powers this car.

With the Active Eco turned off the Rio handled nicely as I zipped around town.  I have never owned a 4-cylendar vehicle but I was very impressed with just how quick the Kia Rio was.

The sleek looks don’t stop at the outside of the Kia Rio.  Inside you have everything at your fingertips including steering wheel controls for the Sirius Satellite Radio, Bluetooth wireless technology, and cruise control.

The rear camera display was a big plus, as backing up is always a concern of mine having children and pets and living in a neighborhood with a ton of kids.  I didn’t expect a rear camera display on a small vehicle like the Rio, so it was a nice surprise!

The Kia Rio is smaller than any vehicle I have ever owned but it still has decent space inside.  We had plenty of room for the car seat in back, but there was not a ton of leg room if you have taller members of the family sitting back there.

All-in-all the Kia Rio is a great vehicle that is easy on the eyes, wallet, and environment!  What is your favorite feature?

  3. Cute car. I will have to revisit the Kia option when its time to purchase a new car. Will this be a giveaway soon?

  4. I tested one of those a couple of months ago & still can’t get over how awesome it was. Seriously! The only car I’ve ever driven that I liked more was the Kia Optima Hybrid we had last week. Kia is totally rocking it lately!
