This weekend a very scary thing happened to me- my computer crashed! It has been stuck on this screen forever and won’t move past it.
I was able to get it to boot up in safe mode, but from there I have no idea what to do to fix it. Lucky our office IT guy will be able to look at it Monday morning. Hopefully he will be able to bring it back from the dead.
It has been inconvenient not having my computer this weekend. I had a ton of blog posts I wanted to work on, but all my images are on my computer. Beyond being inconvenient though, this is terrifying because all of my pictures are on the computer.
I can’t remember the last time I backed up! All my work data is saved to our server, so I am safe in that aspect. But I keep trying to think back to the last time I backed up all my photos and I honestly don’t know if I have done that since Monkey Girl was born. That means ALL of our pictures of her (except for the few I have blogged or printed) are on my computer and in jeopardy of being lost
I know from now on I will be backing up to an external hard drive at least once a month if not more! Please learn from my mistake and make it a priority to back up the files on your computer.

Oh dear. :^( I hope you get your pictures back. I have an elderly PC so I started backing up to an external drive a while ago. So glad I did. I found (quite by accident) that if I store my photos on the external drive instead of my hard drive, my computer is actually faster. Because I’m a nervous Nellie, I also back up my pictures and business documents onto thumb drives that I keep off-premises. I look at it as cheap fire and theft protection.

I’m so sorry! I totally understand what you are going through and it is no fun. Our computer crashed about six weeks ago, but thankfully our hard drive was saved in the repair process. I was sick to my stomach thinking of all the pictures that could be lost. Now I know to back up frequently! I hope yours will be ok!

I lost a ton of pictures when my hard drive crashed a few years ago – pictures of my granddaddy who had passed earlier that year. None of them could be recovered. It was devastating for me! Since then, I now upload my pictures to Shutterfly and store them there as soon as I take them off of my camera and edit them.

I am so sorry Whitney, that is horrible! I got lucky and our IT guy was able to recover all my pictures and documents.
